Free Tax Prep sites open now

Have you received your 2016 W-2 or 1099 documents? If not, be on the lookout – today is the deadline for employers to send these documents to taxpayers.

When you are ready to file, you may be eligible to file for free through United Way of Williamson County’s Free Tax Prep sites or online via DoMyTaxes.org if your household income was less than $64,000 in 2016.

Our Free Tax Prep program’s IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and e-file your tax return, helping you identify the credits and deductions you qualify for.

Free Tax Prep is one of the ways United Way of Williamson County works to reduce burdens of financial need. Last year, our Free Tax Prep volunteers helped connect 1,263 local families to more than $1.2 million in tax refunds and saved each family an average of $200 on tax prep fees. Of these families, 273 lower-wage working families kept more of what they earned through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), receiving combined credits of $406,637.

Research finds that the EITC encourages work, reduces poverty and leads to long-term gains in child health and academic success.

We currently have four sites open through April 18, with evening and Saturday hours available at our Franklin Williamson County Public Library location and Saturday hours at our Fairview Public Library location.
